It dawned on me recently that I had never been on a girls weekend since having the twins, nearly 13 years ago. Trust me I am not complaining, I’d rather spend time with them then anyone else, but I also felt guilty leaving them on the weekends, if I was busy working during the week.
That just changed…this past week I was excited to be able to get away with my best friend for a whole weekend – even though the nerves of leaving my kids crept up on me a bit — or a lot, actually.

Karen and I have been friends since Kindergarten! We both love San Francisco so much we decided that’s where we should head for some much needed girl time together!

We stayed at a San Francisco landmark… the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

We were treated to facials and massages at the hotel’s new Spa L’Occitane — talk about peaceful.
Then it was onto a special wine tasting in The JCB by Jean-Charles Boisset Tasting Lounge, very fancy indeed!

For breakfast be sure to stop by the gorgeous La Marais Bakery, which is so good that people don’t seem to mind waiting in line to get in (we stopped by the Sanchez Street location).

There’s of course tons of great shopping in the city…we decided to check out some of the boutiques on Union Street. We popped into Ambiance San Francisco for some fun affordable clothes.
Plus we got a few cute things at Modern Citizen…. I bought this tan sweater and paired it with my favorite new plaid pants from The Lady and the Sailor.

We also refueled/re-caffeinated at The Wrecking Ball, which had seriously good coffee and the yummiest ginger snaps….and how about that fun wallpaper?
For dinner, we ate at The Slanted Door, a long time city staple ( back in the 90’s I used to frequent the original on Valencia Street which had a much different vibe, but same delicious food.)
The waterfront view here is amazing, plus you can poke around the gorgeous Ferry Building, and check out all the shops.
Karen took home some really stinky cheese from The Cowgirl Creamery.
My other new favorite dinner spot is Tyler Florence’s The Wayfare Tavern. We both love a good popover, and theirs are amazing! Also whatever you do, don’t miss the decadent fried chicken, it really is delicious. We paired ours with a cranberry cocktail called the International Settlement…what’s not to love!

If you’re lucky enough, like we were, you might bump into Tyler himself…and if you’re with Karen, she’ll make him come sit with you! Cheers!

This trip was definitely one for the books, and I am so excited to plan our next girls trip!
San Francisco will forever hold my heart and I’ll be back soon to explore more of this gorgeous city. What are some of your favorite spots in San Francisco?
