Terranea Resort: Our Southbay Getaway
Terranea Resort: Our Southbay Getaway
We recently spent a few magical days at the Terranea Resort overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Palos Verdes. The breathtaking property offers plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy—we had so much fun, we didn’t want to leave!
It was our first trip since quarantine so we were a bit apprehensive at first. But those fears quickly subsided once we arrived and saw all the covid safe procedures in place at the resort.
Plenty of activities to choose from at the 102 acre property. Everything from golfing to kayaking, standup paddleboarding to archery. We tried our hand at archery and I am happy to report Katniss Everdeen would be proud of me. I actually beat Drew (although technically he says he won…but for the purposes of this blog, I did).
The resort offers nine different dining options from casual to fine dining. Our favorite was at Mar’sel. It’s the resort’s fancy restaurant that serves up an inventive twist on California cuisine. With a seasonally rotating fine dining menu that features locally sourced ingredients (citrus and herbs from the resort’s grounds, hand-ground chocolate, farm-fresh eggs), as well as playful takes on culinary favorites. We savored caviar, a beet salad, and one of the best filets we’ve ever tasted.
We also hung by our cabana and enjoyed the adult pool. There are a total of four pools to choose from on the property…one even has a slide for the kids!
The resort also features a beautiful spa. And although I didn’t visit it this trip, I’ve enjoyed both facials and massages in the past.
Even though it’s just 30 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport it feels like you’re in another world when you visit Terranea, and we can’t wait to go back again and create more memories.

OneSkin: My Secret to Younger Looking Skin
OneSkin: My Secret to Younger Looking Skin
I consider aging a privilege…but I also like to do whatever is possible to keep my mind, body & face in tip-top shape. One of the latest additions to my arsenal for both body and face comes from OneSkin.
When I tell you I am obsessed with OneSkin’s OS-01 Topical supplement for the face and the body it’s an understatement. I am already on my second bottle for both …and was such a fan that I actually reached out to the company and asked if I could partner with them.
OneSkin was founded in 2016 by a team of female PhDs with more than 15 years combined in stem cell biology, skin regeneration aging, and bioinformatics arenas.
Together they discovered a novel proprietary peptide called OS-01. This peptide is the first compound proven to reduce skin’s biological age…meaning your skin doesn’t just look younger, it behaves like young skin. But beyond just surface beauty, these scientists are all about skin health…for an overall healthier you…cause let’s face it our skin is our largest organ
I tried the body supplement first and was truly amazed at how the texture of my skin changed, it didn’t appear as crepey and actually seemed to have a bounce to it. When friends would give me a hug, they almost always commented on how soft my skin felt, without being greasy. After that, I knew I had to give the face supplement a try..and the same story…it just seemed to have more overall moisture. The other factor I love…no more multi-step skincare routine morning and evening, this is literally the only thing I put on my face.
Without giving you too much science mumbo jumbo…let me just say both products contain a bunch of ingredients like peptides to support damage repair and increase the thickness of the skin and strengthen it as well… there are also Pracaxi and Andiroba Oils that are anti-inflammatory along with Hyaluronic Acid to penetrate each layer of the skin and lock in moisture. I could go on and on with the ingredients…but you get the point.
The scientists at OneSkin don’t promise a quick fix, but they do promise with consistent use a long-term change deep in your skin…and I for one can’t go a day without my OneSkin.
And now you can try it out at a discount! Use my code: LISABRECK15 for 15% off your order!

Benaar: Chic Resort Wear Hand-Picked in Los Angeles
Benaar: Chic Resort Wear Hand-Picked in Los Angeles
Have you ever had one of those friends who always looks effortlessly chic, wearing pieces you’ve never seen anyplace else? That pretty much sums up my friend Sherli Mikail. We first met more than a decade ago when our kids were in pre-school together. I was always so impressed with the fact that she was a Dentist, but always had time to volunteer for anything and everything, and was usually on the decorating committee making sure everything looked perfect.
So it comes as no surprise that Sherli decided to start a new venture (on top of still practicing dentistry). She’s designed and curated a line of clothing that evokes the chicest resort wear that goes from day to night in a flash. The name of the line is BENAAR which comes from combining her sons’ names, Ben & Aaron.

I recently stopped my Sherli’s stunning home where we played dress up and I picked out some of my favorite styles for you. When designing the brand Sherli wanted it to look like a dress from Zimmerman or a skirt from Marni with a price tag that was a fraction of the price.
She says she was inspired by always having a passion for curating and simply putting different pieces together, especially from all the places she’s traveled. She loves bringing the European flair of Capri, Mykonos, St. Tropez and Morocco, and incorporating it into American Ready to wear. And because everyone has always loved her taste in clothing she wanted to make it accessible for everyone. The line is filled with cute sets, flirty and sexy dresses, skirts and blouses along with accessories like earrings and belts and again nothing breaks the bank.
Be sure and follow Benaar on Instagram and check out the website to feel instantly like you’re on a European Beach vacation!

Cara Hotel & Restaurant: The Epitome of California Cool
Cara Hotel & Restaurant: The Epitome of California Cool
There are few places that I would be excited enough to try that I would leave the westside of Los Angeles in peak traffic and head east…but the Cara Hotel and Restaurant is one of those places.
The gorgeous space sits right at the edge of Los Feliz and Thai Town on Western Avenue. The 1950’s property had deteriorated over the years and was once a popular cruising spot for the gay community, that touted free pornographic television. But when the new owners came in they completely gutted the space and transformed it into an elegant, alfresco hotel with 60 rooms. There’s a huge emphasis on all things California from the decor and artwork to the food and coffee served here.
The guest rooms all open onto the courtyard with its calming reflecting pool and 100-year-old olive trees. If you’re lucky for dinner you’ll get seated around the pool. It’s truly magical at night time, but there are several other patios for dining that are equally as nice, and of course the rich bar just off the entrance.
The menu is the creation of Chef Michael Patria, formerly of the Four Seasons Biltmore Resort in Santa Barbara. He offers timeless dishes with Cal-Italian nods like buffalo mozzarella and heirloom tomato starts, ceviches, lots of roasted fish, and a charcoal-roasted chicken with crispy potatoes that is not to be missed. I’ve dined here several times and have never been disappointed. I loved it so much I even shot a story for NBC California Live.

Misa Los Angeles: Being a Misa Muse
My closet has always been filled with dresses…but when I worked on the news everyday it was typically a solid primary color and very structured. Think power dress. Now that I am not delivering death and destruction to the masses, I really wanted my clothing to be lighter and more feminine.
I especially love pretty floral flowing dresses and no one does that better with a good dose of sexiness than Misa Los Angeles. For me the brand is the epitome of California chic and I was honestly so excited the first time the label reposted one of my photos with the caption “Misa Muse”.
Misa was launched in Los Angeles in 2016 by the late Shadi Askari-Farhat’s romantic heart and bohemian spirit. The brand is a combination of her daughters’ names and is inspired by her love of travel, art, and design.
She wanted her brand to be effortlessly feminine and at the same time elevate the whole idea of easy dressing. You’ll find airy fabrics, gorgeous prints, and unique detailing. What I also love about these pieces is that they work from day to evening, whether it’s during the week or weekend…and they are so easy to pack!
Everything is handmade in Los Angeles by a team of designers, pattern-makers, and sewists. While I’ll always choose a dress over pants…I do have some killer flowy pants from the line that I absolutely love as well!
